Moab trip

We went on our first official family vacation in March! We went down to Moab with some of Josh's family, and had a great time!

It was about a 3 hour drive from our house. I was a little worried about the length of the car ride, since we'd never driven that far with Cordy, and the first little bit was rough. But about halfway down, we all stopped for lunch and got to stretch our legs. Cordy was loving hanging out with her cousins, and wasn't too happy about getting back in the car for more driving.

Since we left earlyish in the day, we couldn't check in at the hotel when we got to Moab, so we headed over to Corona Arch to do some hiking. This was my favorite hike of the trip.

We crossed these railroad tracks on the trail. We thought it looked really cool how the mountain is carved out so perfectly for them.

And this is us coming back down the safety cable. It looks steeper than it was. A little scary to do with a baby on your back!

After the hike, we went back to the hotel, took a nap and got cleaned up. Josh, Cordy, and I decided that we wanted sushi for dinner. I haven't had restaurant sushi since I went gluten free 2 and half years ago, so I was really excited that there was a place that offered gluten free sushi just up the street from our hotel.

We ordered limeade and miso soup before our sushi, and Cordy gulped those down as quickly as we could feed them to her. Then we ordered a roll with fully cooked crab in it, and she really enjoyed that. It was all really delicious. Cordy seemed to enjoy her first sushi experience.

The next day, we all got up really early to hike to Mesa Arch and watch the sun rise. Niki had read that it was a popular morning hike, but we were still surprised by how many people were there with their cameras ready when we got there.

After our hike to Mesa Arch, we headed over to Dead Horse Point. Cordy fell asleep in the car, and Paul decided to stay there with her and take a nap too. It was a really pretty view. It's amazing how different the landscape is just a few hours from home.

After Dead Horse Point, we headed over to Delicate Arch. It got really windy on our way up. Cordy was fine most of the way, but got pretty fussy right before we got to the top. Once we got up there, it was super windy! We snapped a quick picture before we got blown away, and then turned around and went back down. Surprisingly, Cordy fell asleep in the carrier on the way back down.

The next day, we had breakfast together and then headed out for one last hike before going home. We went to Arches National Park to hike to Landscape Arch.

This hike was pretty easy, except for when it got sandy. Landscape arch is 290 feet long, and the longest arch in the park. About 20 years ago, large chunks of stone fell from the thinnest part of the arch, so they closed the trail that went under the arch. It's getting so thin now, that they say that it could collapse at any time. Who knows if it will still be around when Cordy is older. This might be the only time she gets to see it.

Poor Cordy's nap schedule was so thrown off this weekend. She would try to sleep whenever she had the chance!

We all had a lot of fun on our first family vacation. Cordy loved being able to spend so much time with her Grandma, Grandpa, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and of course, trying new food. We're looking forward to more family adventures now that Cordy is getting a little older and can enjoy these things a little more. Our next adventure will probably be camping sometime in the near future.
