In May, Josh and I organized a fishing/camping trip with my family. We decided to go to Jordanelle State Park the first weekend in May. And guess what? It rained! It always rains when we go camping. In fact, I can only think of one camping trip that we've been on in the past 10 years where it didn't rain. Luckily we had my family's motor home for shelter.
It was sprinkling on our way up to the park, but when we got there, it was actually nice and sunny and a little on the warm side. There weren't really many trees around our site, but the ones that were there dropped little yellow sticky things that got all over the place. They stick to everything and stain whatever they touch. So my family (except for my dad) didn't really leave their motor home all weekend.
Cordy in the motor home eating a napkin...yummy?
Even though the weather wasn't ideal, Cordy still had a fun time hanging out with the family. She ate some food (and a napkin), crawled around, spilled the cats' water all over the floor, tried to eat cat food, and got tossed around by Uncle Hugh.
She really liked swinging back and forth!
Josh, my dad, and Penuche went down to the reservoir to do some fishing (Penuche went to go swimming) while the rest of us stayed inside and played some card games. A couple hours later I went out to the fire pit to start a fire and get dinner going. I sent Josh a message asking how the fishing was, and he sent me this picture:
Josh and my dad have had really bad luck fishing, so when I saw that they had at least one fish, I started to get excited. When they got back to camp a little while later, this was the only fish they had caught, well my dad had caught. Josh said he didn't even get a nibble while they were out there. My dad was happy though. After living in Utah for almost 20 years, this was the first fish that he had ever caught! The fish was still alive when they got back, and Cordy was pretty curious, so we let her look, which actually was more like "feel" the fish. She couldn't keep her hands off of it!
About 20 minutes after they got back, the sky started getting really dark, and we could see a storm heading toward us from across the reservoir.
Then out of nowhere, we started to get pelted with hail. HJ, Cordy, and I ran to the motor home. My dad, Josh, and Penuche took cover in the tent. Then the hail turned to rain. I don't remember how long it lasted, but when it finally let up, my coals were all soggy and wet. Luckily dinner was almost done by then, and we were able to get the fire going again pretty quickly.
After dinner, we played more games. Josh and Penuche stayed warm by the fire and roasted some marshmallows for s'mores. Cordy seemed to really enjoy them, probably because of the chocolate.

It got pretty cold that at night. We were glad that we had remembered to bring along some really warm jammies for Cordy. We plopped her next to me in our sleeping bag, and she slept surprisingly well that way.
Not quite sure about these jammies...
The next morning, Josh and my dad went back down to go fishing. They had also set some crawdad traps. Their bad luck continued. Neither of them caught anything, and the traps were empty. After lunch, we packed up and got ready to go home. As Josh was taking down the tent, he decided to have a little fun...
We've been together for over 11 years, and he still acts like a kid! It's not looking like he's ever going to outgrow that...
It was a short weekend camping trip. We weren't really sure how Cordy would be, but she really seemed to enjoy it. We'll have to do it again soon.
